About Us

The patroness of our community is Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta. This is the first Syro- Malabar community in the United States and the second in the entire world to be named after Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a saint of our time and our land. We celebrate our annual feast usually on the Saturday which is closest to the 5th of September every year.

Our mission as a community is: “Carrying the flame of Faith and Tradition in life and worship across the world”.   We as a Syro-Malabar community in the United States love and live this motto in our life to the best of our God given ability in this country.

His Holiness Pope John Paul II established St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago on March 13, 2001. Mar Jacob Angadiath is appointed as its first bishop and his Episcopal Ordination was held in Chicago, together with the inauguration of the diocese, on July 1, 2001

The Syro-Malabar Church is the second largest Church among the Eastern Catholic Churches. St. Thomas the Apostle founded the Syro-Malabar Church, otherwise called the Church of St. Thomas Christians, in South India. The present Kerala State is the home of this Church
